LAKE LUZERNE, N.Y. -- Mr. Harold E. “Butch” Barber, 61, a resident of Lake Luzerne, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at his home.

Born in Portland, Maine, May 17, 1944, he was the son of the late Harry Sr. and Mary (Moon) Barber. He received his early education in Manchester, Vt., and was a 1962 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School. Following high school, Butch joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam.

For many years, Butch was an antique dealer. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed watching his daughter play sports, listening to her music, watching her horseback riding and NASCAR. He had a love of life and a great sense of humor. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6471 in Manchester and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington.

Survivors include a son, Geoff Barber of South Burlington, Vt.; a daughter, Lauren Barber of Middlebury, Vt.; a brother, Harry Barber and his wife, Jan, of Darien, Ill.; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Barber of Vero Beach, Fla.; and a nephew, Kurt Baccei, and his wife, Debbie, of Manchester.

At the request of Mr. Barber there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the family lot in Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Harold E. “Butch” Barber may be made to one’s favorite charity through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
