Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Harold E. Burgess were held Oct. 16 from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Debra Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church and Father Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales church, officiated.

Hymns offered during the service were “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “In the Garden.” During the funeral service the hymn “Amazing Grace” was sung by Mr. Burgess’ step-granddaughter, Madeleine West.

Bearers were Robert Muir, Charles Brambley, Geoff Muir, Scott Muir, Richard Sylvester and Holly Burgess.

Burial took place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Estey and Father Coppola offering the committal prayers. Military honors were accorded the Korean Conflict Army veteran by Donald Tetreault and William Lorette of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. The American flag was folded and presented to Mr. Burgess’ wife, Joyce, and taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

A reception was held at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington following the funeral service.

Mr. Burgess, a resident of Beech Street in Bennington, died Oct. 11 at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
