Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Harold F. Waters Sr., 90, of Manchester passed away Monday evening Nov. 6, 2006, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He was born in Manchester on Sept. 17, 1916, the son of Fayette A. and Agnes (Stannard) Waters. He attended Manchester Elementary/Middle School and was a graduate of the Burr and Burton Seminary in 1937. He married the former Mary Frances Fares on June 3, 1939. Mary passed away on May 19, 1989.

He served in the US Navy from Sept. 1944 to Feb. 1946, where he was attached to the Seabees, 134th Battalion on Guam. He began work at the Arkell Estate in 1936 and became caretaker in 1944. He was a member of and longtime Commander of the Manchester American Legion Post 38, as well as a member of Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6471 in Manchester, the Adoniram Lodge F & A.M. #42 where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, served as Worthy Master of the Order of the Eastern Star #22 and was a member of the Manchester Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Betty Waters Jr., of North Bennington, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Raymond Senecal, of Wallingford, daughter Ann Waters of Albany, N.Y.; grandchildren, Michael Waters, Susan Fabian, Tracy Richards, Debra Brown, Dierdre Moore, Steven Senecal and Dineen Gauthier; his friend, Helene Wilkins of Manchester and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Chester.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Manchester. The Rev. Robert Carpenter will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Factory Point Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place Manchester, on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8:30 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The American Legion Posts 38 and 13 will conduct a service on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service at 6:45, Eastern Star service at 7 and the Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6471 service at 7:15.
