SUNDERLAND -- Harold W. Putnam, 73, a resident of Kansas Road in Sunderland, died peacefully Oct. 15, 2007, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Harold was born in Rutland on Oct. 6, 1934, the son of Clyde and Loretta (Squires) Putnam. After moving to Arlington as a child, Harold attended local schools and graduated from Arlington High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Harold married the former Violet Reed in Rupert on April 1, 1957, and worked as a carpenter in the Arlington and Sunderland area for many years. Harold loved fishing and enjoyed camping, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed watching basketball and was a Boston Celtics basketball fan. Harold cherished times spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Violet of Sunderland; two sons, Timothy Putnam of Indiana and Terry Putnam and his wife, Tara, of Sandgate; five daughters, Denise Hall and her husband Michael of East Arlington, Deborah and Christopher Horton, Donna Keyes and her husband Jack of Manchester, Deanna Jones and her husband Michael of New Jersey and Dawn Steere and her husband Corey of Manchester; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Harold will be held Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. Visiting hours at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Arlington will be held Wednesday evening Oct. 17, 2007, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
