Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Services celebrating the life of Harold Raymond Philputt were held from St. Peters Episcopal Church in Bennington on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2004, where the burial office with Holy Eucharist was offered by the Rev. Robert Miner, interim rector, and the Rev. Penny Hawkins, deacon.

Organist was Randall Krum. Hymns offered during the funeral service were “O God, Our Help In Ages Past,” “My Shepherd Will Supply My Needs,” “Amazing Grace” and “Alleluia! The Strife Is O’er.” Organ selections were “On Eagles’ Wings” and “The Washington Post March.” Scriptural readings were offered by Donna Maroney, crucifer was Emily Kennedy, server was Ronald Myers and usher was Ted Doucette. Words of remembrance were offered by the Rev. Gary Lewis, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Vergennes.

Bearers were Mr. Philputt’s son, James; a son-in-law, Michael O’Daniel; also Michael Comar, Barry Horst, Marc Howe and Francis “Pete” Roy.

In attendance at the funeral services were several present and former employees of Tansitor Electronics and many current and former elementary school teachers from throughout the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union. Mr. Phillputt was employed at Tansitor for 44 years and Mrs. Philputt taught in Bennington School District schools for many years.

Wednesday evening members of American Legion Post 13 conducted their services at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Miner and the Rev. Hawkins offering the committal prayers. Military honors were accorded the World War II Army veteran by Ralph Brown and Kenneth Lorette of American Legion Post 13 who folded the American flag and presented it to Mr. Philputt’s widow, Louise Philputt. Taps were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Following the services a reception for family and friends was held at the parish hall at St. Peters Episcopal Church.

Mr. Philputt, a resident of Pleasant Valley Road, Bennington, died Aug. 8, 2004 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
