Harriett Byars BENNINGTON Harriet Mercy Niles Byars, age 105, a resident of Meeting House Road in White Creek died on Monday morning, Nov. 8, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. She was born in Shaftsbury, VT on February 4, 1905, and was the daughter of the late John Clark and Mary Wheeler (Allen) Niles. She received her education in White Creek and in Hoosick Falls and graduated from Hoosick Falls High School . She married Gordon Byars on June 21, 1929 in White Creek. Mr. Byars predeceased her in 1998. She was a long time member of the Jermain United Methodist Church and held offices through the years. Mrs. Byars was a former member of North Hoosick Home Bureau, White Creek Grange #1390, Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington County Extension Service, and the Ridge Riders Saddle Club. Mrs. Byars was very proud of being a direct descendent, on the Allen side, of Elder William Brewster from the Mayflower and John Niles born in 1603 in Wales . She was very interested in genealogy, history and especially local history. She is survived by one daughter and her husband; Marilyn and Howard Robinson of White Creek, two grandchildren; Duane Robinson and his wife Carmen of White Creek, and Mary Weinfurt and husband Bruce of Bennington. She leaves seven great grandchildren; Justin and Richard Robinson, Bruce and Zachariah Weinfurt and Nicole, Jillian, and Vanessa Robinson. Predeceased by two brothers, Samuel Wheeler Niles and John Edward Niles. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Jermain United Methodist Church in White Creek , NY. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jermain United Methodist Church or the white Creek Fire Department through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
