Harry Hendryx 1926-2010 BENNINGTON Harry E. Hendryx, 84, formerly of Dam Road in Chittenden, Vermont, passed away Monday December 6, 2010 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. Harry was born in New Haven, Connecticut on November 6, 1926 the son of Oscar Hendryx and Marjorie Davis and attended local schools. Harry entered the United States Navy in 1944 and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He received the American Theater Medal and Victory Medal and having served his country faithfully and honorably retired from the United States Navy as Chief Boatswain's Mate in 1986. Harry worked for Pratt-Whitney, military aviation for many years and owned and operated a gun shop at his home on Dam Road where he sold and reloaded guns. Harry loved horses and rode horses in rodeo competitions. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Free and Accepted Masons. He was an instructor for the NRA, a member of the Proctor Fish and Gun Club, Tin Can Sailor and many Naval Reserve Units. Harry is survived by two daughters, Pamela Schafer and Cynthia Holle, two grandchildren Gregory Dane and Stephanie Campbell and a great granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Harry will be held Thursday December 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt will conduct the service. Interment with full military honors will be held in the family lot in Whityneyville Cemetery in Hamden, Connecticut. Visiting hours at the Veterans Home will be held Thursday December 16, 2010 from 1 to 2 p.m. one hour prior to the service. If friends desire, memorial gift's in Harry's memory may be made to the National Rifle Association or the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund, c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home P.O.
