Harry M. Breese 1944-2008 Pownal- Harry M. Breese, 63, a resident of Middle Pownal Road, died suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Harry had been recovering from injuries sustained in a logging accident on Jan. 22. Born in Bridgeport, Conn. April 27, 1944 son of the late Alex and Dorothy McKeo Breese. Harry received his early education in the Shaftsbury schools and was a 1962 graduate of North Bennington High School. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Harry served in the Army from 1968 until 1971. He married the former Helen Hurley at the North Bennington Baptist Church on Feb. 14, 1970. Harry was employed as a cable splicer by New England Telephone Company for over 35 years. Following his retirement he founded T & H Landscaping in Pownal which he continued to operate until the time of his death. Harry was a member of the Pownal Valley Fire Department for over 35 years and was serving as President at the time of his death. Harry was a long time instructor in the Vermont Hunter Safety program. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting, camping, spending time with his family and tinkering in his yard. He leaves his wife, Helen Breese of Pownal; his children, Timothy Breese of Pownal, Kevin Breese of Shaftsbury and Laura Breese Wilkins and her husband Skip of Shaftsbury; three granddaughters, Melony Breese of Waltham, Mass. and Madison and Haley Breese of Shaftsbury; a sister, Alexis Hardwick of Fort Myers, Fla.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his faithful dog. "Molly". Harry was predeceased by a brother, Peter Breese. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Following the funeral service a reception celebrating Harry's life will be held at the Pownal Center Fire Department. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, N.Y. where committal services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. Should friends desire contributions in Harry Breese's memory may be made to either the Pownal Valley Fire Department or the Pownal Rescue Squad Building Fund through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. All members of the Pownal Valley Fire Department are asked to meet at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Sunday at 3 p.m. to pay respects to the family of Harry M. Breese.
