Harry M. Gordon 1927-2008 BENNINGTON Harry M. Gordon, 81, formerly Sloatsburg, N.Y., and a resident of West Road Park in Bennington, died Tuesday afternoon November 18, 2008. Harry was born in New York City on March 13, 1927 the son of Harry and Della Waldron Gordon. He received his education in Sloatsburg, N.Y. schools and was a graduate of Suffern, N.Y. High School, class of 1944. Upon graduation Harry enlisted in the Navy where he served his country for four years. After being honorably discharged from active duty, Harry worked for Curtiss Wright in Caldwell, N.J., then as a mill worker dying fabrics and then American Brake Shoe until he left and went to work in the insurance business, working for Prudential Life Insurance Company for 25 years, retiring in 1984. Harry loved all kinds of sports. He enjoyed watching baseball, football, golf and all sorts of thoroughbred racing. In his earlier years he coached Little League baseball and was an avid New York Mets baseball and New York Giants Football fan. He enjoyed fishing and golfing especially with his wife, Catherine. Harry loved working around his home including adding on and building rooms by himself. Harry was a member of American Legion Post 13, Bennington, American Legion Post in Sloatsburg, the Masonic Lodge in Tuxedo, N.Y. and the Lions Club in Suffern, N.Y. Harry leaves his wife, the former Catherine Seymour, to whom he was married on Long Island, N.Y. on May 6, 1949; his son, Bruce Gordon and his wife, Patricia, of West Milford, N.J.; his daughter, Renee Gordon-Johnson, of Paramus, N.J.; his grandchildren, Julie Gordon of Stamford, Conn., Amy Gordon of Brooklyn, N.Y., Randy Gordon of Stony Point, N.Y., Elizabeth Gettler and Matthew Gettler of Leonia, N.J. and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his son-in law, Richard Johnson, of Leonia, N.J. He was preceded in death by his sister Doris Guastella who died in 2007. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Harry will be held Saturday morning November 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hoosick, N.Y. Interment will be held in the family lot in Sloatsburg Cemetery at a later date. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening November 21, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vt. when the family will be in attendance. Memorial services for Harry will be held in the Rockland County New York area at a future time to be announced.
