Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Harry McDermott Sr., a lifelong resident of East Arlington and a recent resident of Inglis, Fla., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, Fla.

He was born in Bennington on Aug. 19, 1943, the son of James A. and Evelyn (Salisky) McDermott, and attended local schools.

Harry worked as a carpenter in the East Arlington area for many years. He worked for the Hale Co., Fran Fischer Construction with his son Albert, and Roy McDermott Masonry. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a truck driver, at Hildene in Manchester as groundskeeper for 10 years and a custodian for St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington. Harry was a jack-of-all-trades. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed cooking, especially holiday meals. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam era and a 35-year member of American Legion Post 69, Arlington.

He is survived by five sons, Harry McDermott Jr. and Albert McDermott of East Arlington, Micheal McDermott of Florida, and Jeff and Matthew King of Maine; three brothers, Roy McDermott and his wife, Jeannie, of Shaftsbury, Rickford McDermott and his wife, Carol, of Crystal River, and James McDermott of Sunderland; two sisters, Veronica Tinkham of Arlington and Betty McDermott of North Adams, Mass.; two grandchildren, Hollie Hill-Cross and Hunter Hill-McDermott; very dear friends of the family, Dot and Fran Fischer of East Arlington; other grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Mr. McDermott will be held Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home Arlington Chapel, Route 7A, Arlington. The Rev. Bradford Clark of St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington will conduct the service.

There are no visiting hours. Interment will be private.
