Harry W. Noyes NORTH BENNINGTON Harry W. Noyes, 91, resident of Rich Lane, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at the home he built 65 years ago. He was the only child born to Harry and Mary (Gates) Noyes. Mr. Noyes was born in Bennington, graduating from North Bennington High School in 1937. He continued his education at the University of Vermont where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1941. While at UVM, he was in the ROTC program. After graduation, he entered the Navy where he served as a lieutenant during World War II. A lifelong educator, he had taught and served as a principal at several schools throughout Vermont. One of his favorite memories was coaching a winning state champion basketball team on which his son, Allan, played. With his vast knowledge and experience, Mr. Noyes was influential in the development of union school districts in Vermont. Harry was an innovative educator, working for the State Department of Education and serving as Superintendant of two school districts, retiring from the Bellows Falls Union School District in 1978, when he moved to live part-time in Ocala, Fla., for many years. He was a member of the North Bennington Congregational Church and enjoyed sports, geography, history and reading. He leaves his wife Norma (Rich) Noyes, whom he married June 21, 1940, in North Bennington; sons, Allan Noyes and significant other, Ann Robillard, of Ludlow, Mass., William Noyes and wife, Becky, of Westminster, James Noyes and wife, Doreen, of Hyde Park, Robert Noyes and wife, Amy, of Chesterfield, N.H ., and Richard Noyes and wife, Katherine, of Conway, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside funeral services will be held in the Hinsdillville cemetery in the Spring.
