Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Harry R. Van were held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, with Pastors Bob and Linda Lebert of Harvest Christian Ministries officiating.

Musical selections offered during the service were “Beyond the Sunset,” “Daddy’s Hands,” “Grampa, Tell Me about the Good Old Days” and “Great Speckled Bird.”

Bearers were four grandsons, Sean Allen, James and Josh Mears and Michael Gates, and three sons-in-law, John Shultz, Mickey Gates and Terry Allen.

Burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery where committal prayers were offered by Pastors Bob and Linda. Full military honors were accorded the World War II Army veteran by members of the Vermont National Guard. Flag folders were Chet Austin, Vincent Pagan, Tim Cunningham and Phil Church. The firing squad consisted of Dustin Brown, Todd Carter, Martha Stemp, Donald Loveland and Leo Carvey. Taps were sounded by Mr. Van’s granddaughter, Patty Shultz.

The American flag that draped Mr. Van’s casket was folded and presented to his wife, Agnes.

Mr. Van, a resident of Robinson Avenue, Bennington, died Nov. 13, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
