Harvey R. Baker "Skip" 1932-2011 POWNAL, VT Harvey R. "Skip" Baker 79 a resident of Pownal died peacefully Thursday November 3, 2011 at the Vermont Veterans Home with his loving family by his side. Skip was born in Bennington on April 30, 1932, he was the son of Henry H. and Alta (Niles) Baker. He received his early education in Pownal and was a 1951 graduate of Hoosick Falls High School. He was a Korean Naval War Veteran and had served aboard the USS McClelland. In 1956 he established the Alta Gardens Mobile Home Park in Pownal which he operated for several years, in addition he also operated an excavating and trucking business, and during the winter months he plowed roads for the Town of Pownal. Skip had been a member over 25 years and past Chief of the Pownal Fire Protective Association, Life member of American Legion Post 90 , serving as commander in 1991 and a member of the Masons. He loved fishing, watching NASCAR, his favorite driver being the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. He enjoyed mowing lawns and taking his children for rides on his tractor, he also enjoyed gardening. He leaves his wife Sharyn Bourdon Baker whom he married October 15, 2006, children Wade Clarence Wilfred Baker and Alta Eileen Ruth Baker all of Pownal, step children Nathaniel Ernest Andrew Shattuck of Pownal and Chelseay Kaila Ruth Bourdon of Springfield, Vt., nephew Robert Wilcox, nieces Brenda Lawson and Patty Levesque and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister Janet Wilcox who died December 29, 2002. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Monday November 7 at 2 p.m. at the Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Pownal with Reverend Gerald Frey officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be present. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the family payable to Sharyn Baker in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
