Harvey Vahan Kevorkian 1929-2010 BENNINGTON Harvey Vahan Kevorkian, age 81, died peacefully on October 20, at his home on Regwood Drive, Bennington with family members by his side. He was born in Providence, R.I. on June 2, 1929 to Asenath (Peters) and Aram Kevorkian, where her received his early and secondary education. He served in the U. S. Air Force, a veteran of the Korean War. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 1956, he joined the Continental Insurance Company, working in New York City; Springfield, and Boston. In 1968 he joined the Wills Insurance Agency in Bennington where he worked until his retirement. Those years spent here in Bennington were very special to him. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting and serving all the people he met in his role at Wills as well as a member of the community. Harvey was an avid tennis player, especially fond of his matches at Bennington College. He was an accomplished duplicate bridge enthusiast and enjoyed playing in Sectional, Regional and National tournaments as well as locally. He also enjoyed landscaping and caring for his property, traveling, winters in Florida, and, above all, his family. Harvey is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Joan: son Mark and his wife, Karolina of Bennington; son Eric and his wife, Deirdre of Kernersville, N.C.; daughter Karen Hinds and her husband, Don of Alpharetta, Ga.; eleven grandchildren; Kaitlin and Casey Kevorkian; Shenna Kevorkian and her fiancé, Todd Patterson, Seth Kevorkian and his wife Kristen, Aram and Karis Kevorkian; Sarah, Daniel and Nathan Bushee, Zac and Jake Hinds; and two great grandchildren; Logan Howell and Sianna Kevorkian. He also leaves two sisters, Madeline and Lee; two brothers, David and Douglas; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Trevor. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial service will be held at the Old First Church in Old Bennington on Saturday, October 30th at 11 a.m. His family would like to greet friends immediately following the service for luncheon at the Church Barn, 1 Monument Circle, Old Bennington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice and Visiting Nurse Association or the Vermont Veterans Home through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, Vermont 05201.
