Hayward F. Day Jr.

1940 - 2014 DORSET Hayward F. Day Jr., Esquire, better known as "Chip," passed away peacefully Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, he was 74. The son of Dr. Hayward and Anne Louise (DeMeeza) Day , he was born in North Plainfield, N.J. on March 12, 1940. He was a 1962 graduate of Washington & Lee University where he played varsity football and track, and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He then served in the Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966 where he attained the rank of Artillery Officer (Captain). Upon his military discharge, he returned to college, attending Washington & Lee, School of Law, graduating in 1968. He began his career in New York City with the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company as a Trust and Estate Administrator. He transferred to the United States Trust Company in 1969 where he became Assistant Vice President. In 1973, he became a partner with the firm Blatz & Blatz in Plainfield. He has worked as a sole practioner since 1983 in Far Hills, N.J. and Manchester, Vt., where he relocated in 1999. While living in New Jersey, he was a member of the Chester Planning Board, trustee of Purnell School, and trustee of Upper Raritan Watershed Association. Upon relocating to Vermont, he was a member of the Ekwanok Country Club and Dorset Field Club. Chip enjoyed reading, solitaire, playing bridge, golfing, and the company of his canine companions, Flora and Manning. He leaves his wife Lucille "June" (Schomp), whom he married April 10, 1971, in Plainfield; sons, Christopher Hayward Day of New Port Richey, Fla. and Todd Linden Day of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Lucille Day Scott of Duxbury, Mass., and Adrianna Louise Day of Somerville, Mass.; grandchildren, Ella Day, Clark Day, Tripp Scott, and June Scott. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services will be held on June 5 at 4 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester Center with the Reverend John Mitchell, Rector, officiating. Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Chip to the VA Medical Clinic in Bennington or SVMC Cancer Center Patient Fund in care of Brewster Shea Funeral Home, P.O.
