BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Hazel A. Mattison, 90, widow of Gilbert H. Mattison Sr., a resident of Chapel Road, Bennington, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation surrounded by her family.

Born in Bennington April 14, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Myron and Louella (Galusha) Stratton. Hazel received her education in the Bennington schools.

Gilbert and Hazel were married Dec. 15, 1934, in Wallingford. Gilbert died Aug. 29, 1998.

In earlier years Hazel was employed at the former Thomson Mill in Bennington. Hazel’s life was centered around her home and family where she grew flowers, kept dogs, cats and horses and raised golden retrievers. For many years her greatest pleasure has been time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Rolland Becker and Debbie and Keith Giroux, all of Bennington; a son, Gilbert R. “Bud” Mattison of Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Patricia Mattison of Shaftsbury; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Mattison was predeceased by a son, Herbert Mattison, a granddaughter, Christine Marie Mattison, a sister and brother, Mary Stratton and Russell Stratton.

The funeral will be held from the White Chapel Church on Chapel Road Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist in Bennington officiating.

At Hazel’s request there will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.
