Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Hazel W. Reed, 91, a lifelong resident of Chapel Road died Friday evening April 23, 2004 at The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Reed was born in Bennington on June 19,1912; she was the daughter of Clarence Nelson Morse and Lena May (Silver) Morse. Mrs. Reed received her education in Bennington and had attended the former Cora B. Whitney School.

She was married Luther Jesse Reed in the Parsonage of the Shaftsbury United Methodist in November 1930; they enjoyed 67 years of marriage prior to Mr. Reed’s death on Dec. 31,1997.

In earlier years, she had worked at the former Ben-Mont Corp. and for many years she and her husband would manage area motels while the owners were vacationing.

She enjoyed her home and welcomed all visitors; she also enjoyed cooking, attending area fairs, especially the Rutland Fair and had traveled throughout the country with her husband.

She leaves her sons Jesse Reed Jr. and James R. Reed, both of Bennington; a sister, Elizabeth Brimmer of Bennington; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers William Morse, Ralph Morse and Charles Morse.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 27 at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington. Officiating will be the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Reed family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present. Memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. Reed may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
