STAMFORD -- Heather Marie Torres, 17, of Lincoln Road, Stamford, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass. where she was transported after being injured in an automobile accident on Tuesday evening.

She was born in North Adams, Mass., on July 9, 1987, a daughter of Samuel Charles Torres and Nancy Lee (McKinney) Torres. She attended schools in Stamford and was currently a senior at McCann Technical High School in North Adams, where she was a student in the computer assisted drafting program. She was also taking classes at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams. At McCann, she was a member of SADD and the prom committee.

As a freshman, she was part of the drama club and worked on the yearbook committee as a sophomore. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a gold medalist in the state VICA competition. She also was an MCAS scholarship recipient.

Heather also had a part-time job in the dietary department of North Adams Regional Hospital.

She was an active communicant of St. John Bosco Church in Stamford. She played the bass guitar and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her parents Samuel Charles and Nancy Lee (McKinney) Torres of Stamford with whom she made her home; one sister, Adrienne Lynn Torres of Stamford, at home; maternal grandmother, Jeannine (Delisle) McKinney of Clarksburg, Mass.; paternal grandfather, Gerald D. Brassard of North Adams; 10 aunts and uncles, Eric McKinney, Karen Moran, Carl McKinney, Phyllis Desautels, Gail Galusha, Donna Thomann, Miriam Serrano, Sharon Girard, Charles Lia, and Joanna Gilbert; and many close cousins.

The funeral will take place Monday at 9 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church North Adams celebrated by the Rev. Michael Twardzik, pastor, and the Rev. Joseph Tate, pastor of St. John Bosco Church in Stamford. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
