HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Helen Cora Potter Haker, 93, of Hoosick Falls and formerly of Delmar, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Haker was born in Scotia on July 13, 1911, the daughter of the late Norton and Cora Potter. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1929 and the Nursing School of Albany in 1931. She worked as an LPN in Albany Hospital and as a private duty nurse prior to retirement.

Helen had been a member of the Elsmere Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Bentley Haker, in 1991; two sisters, Charlotte and Mary; a brother, Stanley; and a nephew, Edward Vedder.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry Barber and her husband Michael Barber; a grandson, Michael John Barber; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Haker; a niece, Joy Tallmadge; and nephews, Jon and James Haker and George Dempsey.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 21 Hackett Blvd., Albany. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral.

Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Glenmont, in the spring.
