PETERSBURGH, N.Y. -- Helen A. Cottrell, 80, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. She lived on Fox Hollow Road and was the wife of the late Harold “Tuffy” Cottrell who died on July 11, 2004.

Helen was born on Sept. 22, 1924, in Newburgh, daughter of the late William and Irene (Collins) O’Neil. She was educated at schools in Poughkeepsie.

Helen drove a school bus for the Hoosick Falls school district. She was a homemaker, raising her family and helping on the family farm. Helen was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. She enjoyed gardening and bingo.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan M. Bond of Louisiana, Jean M. Starr of Petersburgh and Karen E. Todd of San Antonio, Texas; four sons, William James Cottrell of Bennington, Harold (Hal) Cottrell of Hoosick Falls, Robert (Rob) Cottrell of Petersburgh and Richard S. Cottrell of Hoosick Falls; a sister, Kathleen Magurno of Poughkeepsie; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by a sister, Mary Burlingame.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
