Helen Kelley Gardner 1932-2010 BENNINGTON Helen Kelley Gardner, 78, widow of Edward Gardner Jr., a resident of Elm Street, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at her residence following a long illness. Born in Bennington March 23, 1932 she was the daughter of the late C. Clark and Bertha (Wilcox) Kelley. Helen was a graduate of Burr & Burton Seminary in Manchester and in 1951 graduated from the Putnam School of Nursing. She served on the nursing staff at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington for 44 years. Helen and Ed were married in Manchester on February 18, 1956. Mr. Gardner died June 18, 2006. Helen was an avid reader and a well known cake decorator. Survivors include her children, Mary and Donald Myers of Bennington, Valerie and Greg Camp of East Hampton, Massachusetts, Cindy Gardner and Don Carroll of Bennington, Gayle and Kevin Kees of Shaftsbury and Kelley Gardner and Jim McGovern of Hyde Park, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by a son, Edward E. Gardner III and by a sister and two brothers, Louella Comfort, Clarence and Donald Kelley. The family would like to give special thanks to all of Helen's private caregivers and also to everyone at VNA & Hospice for the wonderful care given Helen during her illness. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 12. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Private committal services will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Helen Gardner's memory may be made to either VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
