Helen L. Groesbeck 1934 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Helen L. Groesbeck,76, wife of William Groesbeck, a resident of Morgan Street in Bennington, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Born in Bennington on April 25, 1934, daughter of the late Robert and Esther Cone Stratton, she received her education in Bennington. In earlier years, Mrs. Groesbeck was employed at several area mills and later at the coffee shop at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Mrs. Groesbeck was a member of the Arlington American Legion Auxiliary, the Bennington Eagles Auxiliary and was a former member of the Woman of the Moose Auxillary. She enjoyed crocheting, swimming, gambling, especially pull tickets, bingo, flea markets and taking walks. She leaves her husband, William Groesbeck of Bennington; two sons, William Groesbeck of Granville, N.Y., and Herbert Groesbeck of Fair Haven; three daughters, Geraldine Ross of Sunderland, Helen R. Groesbeck- McKittrick of Salem, N.Y., and Suzanna Groesbeck of Bennington; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Stratton of Arlington and Robert Stratton, Jr., of Bennington; a sister, Virginia Berard of Bennington, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Groesbeck, and her twin sister, Ellen Welch. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Groesbeck may be made to VNA and Hospice at the Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201 The family would like to thank VNA and Hospice for the care that they gave to Helen and a special thanks to Helen's neighbor, Carol Sabourin, for her support.
