GREENVILLE, N.Y. -- Helen Kwiatkowski, 91, formerly of Cambridge, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland where she had been a resident for only two weeks. She had been living in Greenville with her daughter Helene for the past six years. Born Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1912 in Jersey City, N.J., she was the oldest of the seven children of Polish immigrants, Teofil and Josephine (Wisniewska) Biernacki. She graduated from St. Anthony’s High School and then the family returned to Poland where Helen met and married her husband Adam.

The returned to the United States, living for several years in Queens and then moving to Cambridge in 1946. They owned and operated a farm in Ash Grove, a section of Cambridge.

Helen loved gardening. For many years she ran the trial gardens for Asgrow Seed Co. on Washington Street. How wonderful, being able to have a job doing something you loved! She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge and St. John the Baptist in Greenville. She was a member of the Sacred Heart’s Society and the Altar Rosary Society.

”Babci,” as her family called her, was never still. She loved to cook and bake, take care of her family and do fine needlework.

She is predeceased by her husband Adam and their daughter, Regina Pitt.

Survivors include her daughter, Helene Olszowski of Greenville; a sister, Tessie Roslonowski of Douglaston; three sisters in Poland, Wladyslawa, Blanche and Barbara; four grandchildren, Cynthia Hansmann, Karen Koziol, Walter Adam Pitt and Victoria Deitz; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at the Ackley & Ross Funeal Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge, by Father Joseph Getz on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.

Burial will be in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, 2 Mercy Care Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084.

Helen was a wonderful lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
