BENNINGTON -- Helen R. Maroney, 76, a former resident of Walloomsac Apartments, Bennington, died Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington, July 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Esperence (Fillmore) Ratelle. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Mrs. Maroney was formally married to the late Thomas N. Maroney, who died May 19, 1991.

For many years she was employed as an operator at the New England Telephone Co. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

For the past several years, Mrs. Maroney was a resident of the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington where she enjoyed playing bingo. Her home and family were her main interest.

The family would like to thank both the residents and staff of the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation for all of the loving care that was given to Helen during her stay there.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Smith of Bennington; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Hemming of Troy, N.Y., and a brother, Robert Ratelle of Schaghticoke, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and three sisters-in-law.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, April 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10:30 a.m. where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Sunday.

Private committal services will be held at the family lot in Rosewood Cemetery, White Creek, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mrs. Helen Maroney’s memory may be made to the activities fund at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
