BENNINGTON -- Henry A. Serre, 75, a resident of Gage Street, Bennington, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in North Adams, Mass. on Nov. 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Armand and Dorothea (Lucier) Serre. He received his education in the North Adams schools and was a 1947 graduate of Drury High School.

During his high school career Mr. Serre was an outstanding pitcher on the Drury baseball team. He later received his associate’s degree from Wright College in Chicago. Mr. Serre was a Korean conflict veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 15, 1950 until Oct. 8, 1954. Prior to his naval service Mr. Serre was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He married the former Beatrice White on Dec. 27,1952 in North Bennington. For many years he was employed as a mechanical engineer at Oak Materials Group, later Allied Signal, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Mr. Serre retired in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Serre of Bennington; his mother, Dorothea Serre of North Adams; two sons, Glenn A. Serre of Cupertino, Calif. and Michael L. Serre of Bennington; four grandchildren; two brothers, Peter Serre and Roger Serre, both of North Adams; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was an honest, kind, and gentle person, a devoted husband and father, a hard worker, a good man.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in Henry A.
