Henry W. Bassen

4/8/1931 - 6/7/2013 POWNAL, VT. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Henry was a longtime resident of Pownal before moving to Sarasota, Fla., in 1973.

A United States Air Force veteran, he was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, a long time member of Pownal United Methodist Church, and former member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Sarasota.

He was an active member of Mt. Anthony Lodge #13 F&AM in Bennington, where he was a Past Master. He had also served as a Selectman for the town of Pownal, where he was instrumental in organizing and building the Solomon Wright Library.

He was the original owner of the Ladd Brook Motor Inn in Pownal, and he also served as the Building and Grounds Superintendent of the Sarasota County Agricultural Fair Association where he retired in 1994.

He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Nancy (Ostrander) Bassen.

He leaves behind his daughter Betsy, and son, Peter, both of Sarasota, Fla.

Internment will be at Oak Hill Cemetary in Pownal where HANSON - WALBRIDGE AND SHEA FUNERAL HOME will conduct services on Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m.
