Henry H. Chalifoux

1933 - 2013 BENNINGTON, VT Henry H. Chalifoux, 79, a resident of North Bennington Road, Bennington, died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident near his home.

Born in North Adams, Mass., June 5, 1933, son of the late Henry F. and Ora (Sawyer) Chalifoux, he received his education in the North Adams schools and was a 1951 graduate of Drury High School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Henry served in the Air Force from 1951-1955. In earlier years he was employed as a draftsman at General Electric Company in Pittsfield and later worked at Warren Wire.

Henry married the former Dolores (Hoag) Coulter in Bennington on January 24, 1971. In 1975 Henry graduated from cosmetology school in Rutland. He was associated with his wife at Hair Fashions by Dolores for three years when they established the Hairport on North Street in Bennington, which they operated for the next 18 years. They continued operating the Hairport and the Academy of Cosmetology in their home.

Henry especially enjoyed golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Chalifoux of North Bennington; a daughter, Cheryl A. Harrington of Bennington, and a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Chalifoux of Adams, Mass.; six step-children and their spouses, Leia and David Sharpe of Eagle Bridge, NY, Harry and Peggy Coulter of Bennington, Nadine and Kevin Drake of Hoosick Falls, NY, Scott Coulter and Kristine Hunt of North Bennington, Alice and John Shaw of Bennington and Kelly Coulter of Pownal; 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry was predeceased by four sisters and a brother.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Green Mountain Christian Center, 440 Main Street in Bennington on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor John Goyette officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. when the family will be in attendance. Private committal services will take place at the family lot in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington at the convenience of the family.
