Henry J. Green

1927-2009 BENNINGTON Henry J. Green, 82, a resident of West Main Street, and a former resident of Arlington, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in Bennington on May 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Clark H. and Muriel Phillips Green.

He received his education in the Bennington schools and was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps.

Henry married the former Mary Maroney at the St. Francis de Sales rectory in Bennington on May 23, 1948.

He was employed at the former Bijur Lubricating Company for 38 years until his retirement in 1989.

Henry was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees baseball and New York Giants football teams. His favorite pastime was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Green of Bennington; a daughter, Kathleen M. Griffith and Bill Garrison of North Bennington; a son, Stephen J. Green and Jeanne Arcodia of Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Dee Dee Green of West Arlington; and a daughter and son-in-law, Marie G. and David Morse of Winter Haven, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Clark and Hazel Green of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry was predeceased by a son, Thomas H. Green who died Aug. 27, 2005; and by six brothers and sisters.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
