BENNINGTON -- Henry Oscar Tobin, 87, a lifelong resident of Bennington, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at his home on Pratt Street. He was born in Dorset on May 1, 1918, the son of Robert C. and Bessie (McWayne) Tobin and attended local schools.

Mr. Tobin worked for the tobacco industry in Connecticut and then as a boiler fireman for wood manufacturing companies in the Bennington area for several more years.

Mr. Tobin enjoyed hunting, fishing and his annual camping trips. He cherished times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Pauline Lever of Bennington; three sons, Raymond Tobin of North Pownal, Larry Tobin of Ithaca, N.Y., and Ralph Tobin of Woodford; three daughters, Caroline Valentine of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Betty Ann Regan of Florida and Fay Pahl of Richlands, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Tobin and William Tobin of Bennington; a sister, Charlotte Parks of Dorset; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Henry Tobin, who died in December 1995.

At Mr. Tobin’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington.
