Henry C. "Hank" Van Orman Jr.

1948 - 2013 EAST POWNAL Henry C. "Hank" Van Orman Jr., 64, a resident of South Stream Road, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington on Oct. 31, 1948, the son of the late Henry Van Orman Sr. and Lucy (Vose) Van Orman. Hank received his education in Bennington and was a 1966 graduate of Bennington High School.

His wife, the former Ginette Jeanne Beaudoin, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1973, at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington, died Sept. 8, 2002.

In earlier years, Hank was employed at the BenMont Paper Company. He later went to work as a heavy equipment operator at several construction companies including, Burgess Brothers, L.H. Davis Construction, Dailey's, and Peckham Industries. He also owned and operated his own company, H. Van Orman and Son Excavation. He was very committed to his work and was well respected for the work he did.

Hank was a former volunteer firefighter with the East Pownal Fire Department where he was also instrumental in the design of the fire house.

He had a love for music and, in earlier years, was a drummer in a local band which went on to win the Battle of the Bands in Albany, N.Y. He loved nature and being outdoors. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed working on cars, especially Mustangs. His family was his passion.

Survivors include, his son, Henry C. VanOrman III, and his wife, Jessica, of Barre; a daughter, Karin L. Van Orman, and her husband, Allan Lim, of New York City; three grandchildren, Gabe and Eva Van Orman of Barre and Esme Lim of New York City; a sister, June King, and her husband, Howard, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Percey and Virginia LaFlamme.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, May 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Robin Green officiating. Immediately following the service, burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
