Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Herbert M. “Herby” Bassler, 58, a former resident of Bennington and more recently of Springfield, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Springfield Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., April 5, 1947, he was the son of the late Charles and Betty (Lewis) Bassler. He received his education in the Freeport area schools.

Mr. Bassler moved his family to Bennington in 1984. He had been employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker in the Bennington area for several years.

Mr. Bassler was a highly respected tattoo artist. He also enjoyed woodburning and loved fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert Bassler Jr. of Florida, Eric Bassler and Justin John Bassler, both of Bennington; a grandson, Noah Bassler of Bennington; his companion, Julia Flood of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Deena Smith of Cambridge, N.Y., and Dagny Griffin of Tulsa, Okla.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Lebert, pastor of Harvest Christian Ministries, officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in Herby Bassler’s memory may be made to his son, Eric Bassler, toward the purchase of a cemetery marker through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
