Obituary Condolences

SUNDERLAND -- Herbert James Bowen Jr., 79, of Sunderland, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. He was born in Sunderland on March 12, 1927, the son of Herbert J. Sr. and Ethel (Morehouse) Bowen. He was a graduate of the Burr and Burton Seminary.

He married Natalie Corey on July 30, 1949, in Manchester. Natalie passed away on May 20, 2003. Together they raised a loving family. He was a mechanic for many years with Bushee Auto Body in Manchester, a business he started with Dick Bushee. Prior to that, he worked for Leo’s Motors. He had also driven trucks and delivered milk for Wilcox Dairy and had worked on the road crew for the town of Manchester. He raised sheep on Equinox Mountain. He loved to hunt and fish, as well as going for drives and visiting.

He is survived by two sons, Jim Bowen of Wallingford and Norman Bowen of Manchester; two daughters, Naomi Bowen and Donna Sargent, both of Sunderland; a sister, Harriet Landon of Rutland; his grandchildren, John Brian Sargent, Jeffrey Sargent, Michael Bowen, Melody Sargent and Amanda Bowen; and one great-granddaughter, Carmella Brown. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Bowen, a brother, Parker Brown, and his sister, Norma Bowen.
