Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Herman E. Marsh, 90, of Hoosick Falls died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, where he had been a resident since March 2004. He was the husband of Jean (Bentley) Marsh, who is a resident of the Health Center. They were married for 65 years. Herman and Jean formerly resided on Brady Lane in North Hoosick.

Herman was born on Oct. 28, 1915, in Cambridge, son of the late Floyd and Isoline (Maynard). He was educated at schools in Cambridge and worked as a truck driver for Fairbanks Express for 36 years in Hoosick Falls. He drove stock cars at the Stateline Speedway and at Fair Haven, Vt., with Steve Bouplon. Herman was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He hunted and fished well into his eighties with his friend Tom Miller. He was a member of the Pioneer Fish and Game Club, and the Elks Lodge 178 for more than 50 years, Derby Club and a charter member of the North Hoosick Fire Department. Herman enjoyed building birdhouses and feeders.

Survivors other than his wife, Jean, include five daughters, Jo Ann Hawks and husband Don of Eagle Bridge, Cherry Millington of Waco, Texas, Pat Grennan and husband Bill of Hoosick Falls, Kay Wright and husband Howie of Cambridge, and Lori Gardner and husband Jeff of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Donald and his wife Karen of East Greenbush; four sisters, Clara Harrington of Hoosick, Elizabeth Shackett of Stephentown, Helen Jean Holton and Margaretta Telford, both of Cambridge; a brother, Walter Marsh of Yucca Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, who adored him. Herman is predeceased by a brother, Floyd, and sister, Virginia.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls. Memorial donations may be made to either the Hoosick Falls Health Center or the American Red Cross through the funeral home. The Marsh family would like to thank everyone at the Hoosick Falls Health Center for the wonderful care they gave to Herman.
