Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Hilda Blizinski, 81, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, after a short hospitalization in southwest Vermont. For the past five years she had been a resident of Arlington with her daughter and son-in-law.

Hilda was born to Emidio and Concetta (Bucci) DiBartolomeo on March 2, 1923 in Amsterdam. The last surviving of eight children, she grew up in the city and graduated Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1941. In 1946 she married Ernest J. Blizinski, who predeceased her in 1986.

During World War II, she worked for General Electric in Building 28, assembling the Norden Bomb Site, which was so instrumental in the success of our air warfare. In later years, she worked for Fairchild Electrometrics, where she assembled on-board control systems for the Apollo space program and instructed others in the process.

In recent years, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in the countryside of Arlington, where she enjoyed the outdoors and caring for the cats. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed working in the flower and vegetable gardens. She also loved traveling around the country and meeting new people. Above all, her happiest times were spent amongst her family sharing laughter and love.

She is survived by her daughter Gail Concetta Bowers; son-in-law John Paul Bowers; nieces and nephews Colleen DiBartolomeo Demaria, Kathy DiBartolomeo Conza, Susan DiBartolomeo Tanner, David Andrews, James DiBartolomeo and Michael DiBartolomeo of the city, Kevin DiBartolomeo of Oneonta, Nancy DiBartolomeo Mitchell of Springfield, Mass., Diane LaRoque, Helen DiBartolomeo and Donald DiBartolomeo; and three sisters-in-law, Ramona Gralewski, Millie DiBartolomeo and Frances DiBartolomeo.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

If they wish, friends may make contributions to their local Alzheimer’s association or to Bennington Project Independence, 124 Pleasant St., Bennington, VT 05201, in Hilda’s memory. Please sign the family guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
