WILMINGTON -- Mrs. Hilda Look Minor, 94, a resident of Ray Hill Road, died Saturday evening, March 26, 2005, at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Minor was born in Columbia Falls, Maine on April 28, 1910. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel (Chambers) Look. At the age of 8, her family relocated to Wilmington, where they purchased a farm on Coldbrook Road. As a young girl, she would drive a horse and buggy to Wilmington High School each day, leaving the horse at stables located on Cat Alley until after school and the ride home; in the winter she traded the buggy for a sleigh.

A 1928 graduate of Wilmington High School, she was the last surviving member of her class. She married Francis Minor in Fort Edward, N.Y. on Sept. 14, 1928, Mr. Minor died one week after celebrating their 50th anniversary, on Sept. 21, 1978.

In 1938, she and her husband established the Hillside Poultry Farm on Ray Hill Road, with 75 chicks and borrowed grain. Mrs. Minor was responsible for running the farm, selling the eggs and processing the chickens. The farm grew to house several thousand chickens, with routes being established to sell the products to locals, visitors and businesses. The family business was passed to their son Dary and daughter-in-law Joan in 1961; they maintained the business for almost 40 years.

Mrs. Minor was a member of the Victory Grange, Wilmington Home Demonstration Group and Order of the Eastern Star Mayflower Chapter No. 19.She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and gardening, was an avid reader and loved her family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dary and Joan Minor of Wilmington; a daughter and son-in-law, Rose-Marie and Neil Olmstead of LeCanto, Fla.; a brother, David Look of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Craig Olmstead, Scott Olmstead, Lynn Boles and Kathleen Bernard; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Christine Olmstead, a sister, Eliza Johnson, and brother Eugene “Fred” Look.

Graveside services will be held at the Minor family lot in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
