Hilda B. Wilcox

1914-2010 MANCHESTER, VT Hilda B. Wilcox, 95, of Manchester, passed away on May 25, 2010.

Hilda was born Dec. 21, 1914 in Sandgate, Vt., the daughter of the late Fred and Frances Lomberg.

She married Dana L. Thompson on June 16, 1934. They started their family while living in Sandgate, and thereafter moved to Manchester in 1946. Dana died Dec. 12, 1972, in the line of duty while serving as police chief of the Manchester Police Department.

Hilda married Lawrence Wilcox on May 8, 1993. Lawrence died March 26, 2007.

She was also predeceased by her brothers, Fred and William Lomberg of Sandgate, and most recently, her sister, Elsie Sprague of West Arlington.

Prior to Dana's tragic death in 1972, Hilda and Dana had built their camp on Echo Lake in the Northeast Kingdom where they enjoyed many years of fishing and relaxation with family and friends, as well as many other fishing trips in the northeast and Canada. Hilda also had a natural talent for bagging her deer most every season and hunted with family members well into her 70s.

Hilda worked for many years as the bookkeeper at Wilcox Fuels when it was owned by Bernie and Larry Wilcox, and then at Pyrofax Gas prior to her retirement.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in West Rupert, and a member of the Adoniram Chapter #22 Order of the Eastern Star.

Hilda leaves her five children, John F. Thompson and his wife, Carol, of West Arlington, George D. Thompson and his wife, Zilpha, of E. Charleston, Vt., Betty F. Townsend and her husband, Vic, of Norton, Vt., Marilyn L. Scarlotta of Granville, N.Y., and Alice L. Ashley and her husband, Richard, of Sunderland, Vt. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the BREWSTER FUNERAL HOME, 34 Park Place Manchester, Vt. Burial will follow in Factory Point Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
