Howard Cleveland 1928-2008 JACKSON, N.Y. Howard Cleveland, 79, of Jackson, passed away Saturday evening, August 23, 2008 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington with his family at his side. Born Dec. 24, 1928 in Troy, N.Y., son of Ernest and Alice Moore Cleveland, he graduated in 1946 from Salem Washington Academy. Mr. Cleveland owned and operated a dairy farm on Cleveland Road for many years until 1971. Later, he worked at Salem Washington Academy as a school bus driver and a custodian and also a bowling instructor for 20 years retiring in 1991. In 2000, he began working at the Mt. Anthony School in Bennington for the Special Education Dept. until 2007. He was a member of the former Salem Grange and a charter member of the Salem Rescue Squad. Mr. Cleveland enjoyed bowling, hunting, and growing his garden each year. He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed visiting with people, especially his three grandchildren. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Jane Adams Cleveland, whom he married September 19, 1959; his four children, Timothy Cleveland and his wife, Diane, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Harold Cleveland and his wife, Vickie, of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Steven Cleveland of Jackson, N.Y., and Jeanie McMullen and her husband, David, of Cornwall, Vt.; two brothers, James Cleveland of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Charles Cleveland of Jonesville, N.Y.; and his three grandchildren, Naomi Watkins, Makenzie McMullen and Casey McMullen FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with Rev. Clyde Fobes officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
