Obituary Condolences

SHUSHAN, N.Y. -- Howard D. “Howie” Dunham, 83, of Shushan, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at his residence. Howie was born April 1, 1924, in Johnsonville, the son of late Clarence and Mary Cottrell Dunham.

He worked on his family farm in Johnsonville and later worked for Fairdale Farms in Bennington, Vt. He also worked on the farms of Harold McEachron and also Leon McEachron. Howie retired as a custodian at Salem Central School after 13 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of in house plants, walking around the villages of Salem and Shushan, in which he was known to walk five miles a day. Howie lived in Salem for 34 years before moving to Shushan in 2006. While living in Salem, he helped many elderly people with odds and ends around their homes. Howie was a member of the Shushan United Methodist Church where he was active in the church suppers. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Doris Ludd Dunham, who passed away Sept. 23, 2004.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Rawling and her husband Peter of Shushan; a son, Gary Dunham and his wife Pamela of Salem; two brothers, Warren Dunham of Queensbury and Harold Dunham of Schenectady; a sister, Eleanor Panthen of Vista, Calif. He is also survived by three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also pre-deceased by a grandson and a sister Ruth Franks.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Shushan United Methodist Church, Shushan with the Rev. Raoul Waters and the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will follow the service at Millertown Cemetery in Johnsonville.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.
