1924 - 2016 BENNINGTON Howard J. Greenslet, 91, a resident of Burgess Road passed away at his home on Saturday, January 2, 2016. Born in Bennington on June 14, 1924, he was the son of Francis J. and Lula (Lovejoy) Greenslet. Howard grew up in Bennington where he graduated from Bennington High School. Following high school, he entered the US Army during World War II, and was assigned stateside as a Medic Corpsman. After his military discharge, he spent a few years in Oregon with relatives and held his fondest job of driving the mail and milk boat on the Siuslaw River. Howard then returned to Bennington and worked at the hospital where he met his wife-to-be, Mary Kent. He then became the first full-time employee of Tansitor Electronics (Vishay), where he was the Quality Control Manager, and served as President of the Electronics Quality Control Association. After leaving Tansitor, Howard and his wife owned and operated Carroll Drug Store. Howard then began a career in furniture, where he worked at Griffin Furniture in Arlington, and cofounded Furniture Restoration Shop of Vermont with his son, David. Howard also worked for Paulin's in North Bennington. Howard was a former member of the Norshaft Lions Club, and had a keen interest in science. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and tinkering on just about anything. He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, David and Becky Greenslet of Bennington, granddaughter Amanda Greenslet of Boston, nieces, and cousins. In addition to his wife Mary who died in May 2003, he was predeceased by his brother, Roger. SERVICES: In keeping with Howard wishes, services will be private. He will be interred next to his wife in the Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home.
