NORTH HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Howard J. Bornt, Jr., 79, of White Creek Road, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born Sept. 9, 1927, in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of the late Howard O. and Eva Monroe Bornt, Sr.

He was the loving husband of the former Caroline A. Reagan whom he married on Sept. 11, 1954, in the White Creek Methodist Church.

Howard attended Hoosick Falls schools and was in the Army during World War II where he was honorably discharged.

He worked for many years for Stephen & Thompson paper mill and later for the Columbia Box Co. in Walloomsac until retiring in 1988.

He was a charter member and lifetime member serving 59 years with the North Hoosick Fire Department where he held the positions of fire chief, asst. chief, president, vice president, board of director and fire police captain. Howard also played for the Walloomsac Indians baseball team.

He was a member of the North Hoosick Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Caroline A. Bornt; a son, Edward and daughter-in law, Theresa; a son, Alan and daughter-in law, Shelly, all of North Hoosick; a daughter, Cindy, and son-in law, James Joy, of Salem; a daughter, Carol Gavel, of New Milford, Conn.; grand-children, Janelle Quigley, Amy Bornt, Katie Bornt, Mary Kay Bornt, Timothy Bornt, Laura Bornt, Rachel Joy, James Joy, Matthew Gavel and Sarah Gavel and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Jeter Gavel.

Funeral services with full fire departmental honors will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the North Hoosick Methodist Church where the Rev. Phillip Garippa will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Relatives, friends and fellow fire fighters are invited to the Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home, 72 Main St., Hoosick Falls on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. for visitation.

Contributions can be made in memory of Howard to the North Hoosick Fire Department through the funeral home.
