WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Howard K. Marr, 84, of Sweetwood Continuing Care Community and a resident of New York City, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003 at his home in Williamstown. He was born in Vienna, Austria on June 15, 1919, the son of the late Robert and Elsa Marr. He attended schools in Vienna. Mr. Marr came to the United States in 1938 and settled in New York City.

He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Latin American studies.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. Mr. Marr was the owner and operator of the family business, Robert Marr & Son Import and Exports, in New York City, a business that his late father had established.

At the time of his death, Mr. Marr was still actively involved in the company operations. His wife, Lee (Weiss) Marr, whom he married in May 1942 in New York City, died April 20, 2002. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Chesney of Pownal, Vt. and two granddaughters, Kristina Chesney and Alana Chesney.

Calling hours for Howard K. Marr will take place Monday, Aug. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Private burial for the family and close friends will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery, South Williamstown. Memorial donations are suggested for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Center through the funeral home.
