BENNINGTON -- Howard James Lackey, 85, a longtime resident of Division Street, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.

Howard was born in Hebron, N.Y., on Aug. 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ida (Brett) Lackey, he received his education in schools in Argyle, N.Y., and Pownal. Howard was married to the former Betty Watson in Bennington on June 28, 1947, this past June they had celebrated 60 years of marriage with a celebration which included all of their family members attending.

Howard had worked at Ideal Fuels and Ideal Fence Co. for 33 years where he was a truck driver and installer, with his mechanical aptitude he enjoyed working on older cars for his friends and family. In earlier years he liked to hunt and fish, however, he found the most enjoyment in the company and activities of his family.

Howard leaves his wife, Betty Lackey, of Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Lackey, of White Creek, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Robert Corriveau, of Bennington, and Nancy and Patrick Mason of Bennington; grandchildren Deanna Fritz, Joey Fritz, Amy Putnam, Erin Beaudoin, Adrienne Sherwood, Korey Lackey, Ben Lackey, Naomi Peterson and Nicole Stryker; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Racine, a grandson, Shad Lackey and great-grandson Koby Peterson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington officiating. Interment will follow in the Lackey family lot in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present.

Should friends desire, memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Lackey may be made to either the First Baptist Church or the Bennington Rescue Squad in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
