HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Hubert J. Jandrow, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, where he had been a resident since 2002. He was the husband of the late Emily Jandrow, who died in 2003. His first wife, Marguerite, died in 1949 and his second wife, Irma, died in 1975.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1914 in Whitehall son of the late John A. and Olive C. (Deo) Jandrow. He was educated at schools in Whitehall and Berlin. Hubert worked as a production clerk at the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, Mass.; he also worked on a dairy farm in Cherry Plains as a young man. He was a communicant of the Scared Heart Church in Berlin and a member of the Quarter Century Club at General Electric.

Hubert was very active in community affairs, serving as a firefighter for 38 years and a member of the rescue squad, both in Berlin. He served as fire commissioner and on the board of directors of the fire department, and also as the president of the rescue squad for several years.

Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Huff of Australia and Sharon Jandrow of Amherst, Mass.; a sister, Vivian Close of Stephentown. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at a time to be announced. Burial will follow the Mass at the Center Berlin Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls, on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Berlin Fire Department or the Berlin Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
