Obituary Condolences

Hudson Carpenter 1920 - 2008 BENNINGTON Hudson Van Buram Carpenter, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 18, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, Bennington, Vt. Hudson was born Oct. 28, 1920 in Tinmoth Vt., son of Frank J. and Lovina Carpenter. He attended schools in Dorset, Danby, and Salem, N.Y. In his younger years, he worked as an Orchardist in the Dorset Apple Orchard. During the course of his life, he also became a Carpenter and constructed six houses within the local area. Had a love for tinkering and honed his skills by recycling scrap metal. Later, his love of the outdoors spiked his interest in becoming a logger. He then expanded his outdoor interests by building his own business in house caretaking, lawn mowing and snow plowing for residents in the Dorset and surrounding areas. For a portion of his time, he also was the school bus driver for the North Rupert school. Hudson had a very inquisitive mind and loved to learn new things. He was tenacious when taking on a challange. For many in the area, if there was a challenging job to be taken on, one that others might not want to take on, they would call on Hud, He loved trying to repair things of all kinds which, for a number of years, stimulated the operation of his small fix-it shop. Hudson was a sociable individual who would take time to pause and strike up a conversation with someone regarding many of lifes' questions. He loved playing tunes on his fiddle for his family and friends, as well as engaging in a spirited game of Scrabble. He enjoyed pondering over philosophical questions and spent hours in a good debate. Hudson leaves his wife, Esther M. Carpenter of W. Pawlet Vt., whom he married on June 25, 1945. He also leaves six children, Virginia Labbe of South Paris, Maine., Judson Carpenter of Latham, N.Y., Joan Brooks of Tinmouth, Vt., Nancy Burditt of Ft. Collins, Colo., Judy Carpenter of Dorset Vt., and Bonnie Carpenter of Underhill, Vt., as well as 13 grand children and six great-grand children.
