BENNINGTON -- Ida Mary Estes, 83, a resident of 135 Elm Street, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 20, 2007, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in North Adams, Mass., on April 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Vicari) Maroni. She attended schools in Clarksburg, Mass., where she lived most of her life.

In her early years she was employed at the former Gales Shoe Company where she met her husband, the late Lester “Flash” Estes, who died in 1991.

A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Ida’s children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She loved watching them grow and shared an interest in all of their activities.

Survivors include two sons, John Estes and his wife, Donna, of North Adams, Mass., and David Estes and his wife, Judi, of Bennington; four grandchildren, Deron Estes and his wife, Suzanne, of Somerville, Mass., Amy Cyr and her husband, Carl, of Easthampton, Mass., and Peter and Hillary Estes both of Bennington; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Estes and Sadie Cyr; two brothers, Hugo Maroni and his wife, Jeanette, of Stamford, and John Maroni, and his wife Mary Ann of Clarksburg, Mass.; a brother-in-law, Serino Bormolini and a sister-in-law, Rita Maroni; and several nieces and nephews.

Ida was pre-deceased by a brother, Frank Maroni, and two sisters, Rena Bormolini and Louise Maroni.

At the request of Mrs. Estes, there will be no calling hours. The funeral will take place from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m. and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 11 a.m. A remembrance gathering will be held following the funeral service at the Parish Center. Burial will take place in the spring in the family lot in the Clarksburg (Mass.) Cemetery.

If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Ida’s memory to The School of Sacred Heart St. Francis through the office of Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT, 05201.
