BENNINGTON -- Ida May Meiers, 92, widow of Edward Meiers, a former resident of Nassau, N.Y., died Monday, July 3, 2006, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Schodack, N.Y., Aug. 9, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Carrie (Peake) Dutcher. She received her education in Bennington.

Mr. Meiers died in Nassau in 1998.

Ida May was employed in earlier years in the printing department of the New York State Department of Education.

She was a longtime member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13 in Bennington. Her hobbies and interests included reading, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include two stepgrandchildren, Michelle Meinkner of Nashville, Tenn., and Suzanne Clark of Middletown, N.Y.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Sierra Clark and Desire Clark; three sisters, Neva LaCroix of Bennington, Jeanette Condon of Nassau and Barbara Eddy of Hudson, N.Y.; as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Mrs. Meiers was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Center and Clara Hayes Betit.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Mrs. Meiers will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mother Anita Schell-Lambert officiating.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

Should friends desire, charitable contributions in memory of Mrs. Meiers may be made to the Patient Activity Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 13 are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. to conduct services in memory of past president Ida May Meiers.
