Ida Wetzig 1918-2011 BENNINGTON Ida Wetzig was born in Kewanee, Ill on January 16, 1918. She was from a large, hard-working family, with 13 other siblings. Her parents were Flora and Cash Williams. She was married to Irving Wetzig for 40 years and had no children. She worked for many years in the Boss Glove Factory. Longevity ran in the Williams family with her closest siblings Ruth living to 99 1/2 , Darleen living to 78, and Dale living to be 95. Ida was a refugee from hurricane Katrina. Living on the Mississippi gulf coast at the time of the hurricane, she lost her entire home, as well as her beloved cat. After Katrina, Ida moved to Bennington, Vt. to live with her niece Trevella. For the last four months of her life she lived in North Bennington and was cared for by her great niece/nephew Lisa and Colin Moore. Ida was a very strong woman, both emotionally and physically. She enjoyed her family and Colin and Lisa's children. She enjoyed cooking, making jelly, crocheting, and going to church on Sunday. She attended Second Congregational Church in Bennington. One of her weekly rituals including getting her hair done at the Village Salon where she enjoyed Lydia and Dineen up until the last few months of her life. Ida was a very down to earth person, but she comprehended life and its complexities with great understanding. She gave so much to wisdom to her family by adding her simple philosophies and insight to the issue at hand. Ida loved nature, animals, flowers, and especially always commented on the little rocks that observed in the rivers and streams here. The day after she died, a little dove appeared outside of her window and on her front doorstep. To honor the fact that Ida was a very private person, a small gathering will be held in her home to celebrate the joy of her life. Her body will be transported to Long Beach, Miss. where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Irving. A graveside service will be held for both her and Trevella on Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m..
