Ileana Bushee Obituary
Ileana L. Bushee

1926 - 2014 BENNINGTON Ileana L. Bushee, 88, a resident of Division Street, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6, at her residence. Born in Springfield, Mass. on Nov. 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Etta (Elliott) Lother. Ileana received her education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School. In earlier years Ileana was employed as the office manager at WBTN radio in Bennington. She later obtained her real estate and broker licenses and discovered a career she genuinely loved. Ileana began her career at Hoisington Realty. She later became one of the principle brokers at Butler Realty for over twenty years where she employed her considerable energy, enthusiasm and talent for mortgage financing to help families find their ideal homes. Because of her commitment and genuine interest, many of her clients became her friends who kept her updated on their growing families and important events. During this time she also co-owned and operated the Wheels in Motion Roller Rink for several years. She spent most of her evenings at the rink because she loved being with the children and young teens who came there. Her natural ability to connect with them and make them feel special led many of them to call her "Gram." Following retirement from real estate, Ileana went to work in the bakery at Price Chopper where she remained until the age of 84. She loved meeting people and staying active. Ileana faithfully attended all of her grandchildren's extra-curricular events where she was again affectionately known as "Gram." She frequently baked cookies for the teams and was one of their most avid and vocal fans. Other interests over the years included skiing, gardening, bird watching, sewing and rooting for her favorite team, the New England Patriots. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Coleen and Thomas Macksey, of Shaftsbury; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Brett) Parizo, Tracy (Brian Boudreau) Bushee and Christopher Macksey; four great-grandchildren; her former daughter-in-law, Patty Surdam; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ileana was predeceased by her beloved son, Martin Bushee; and by four sisters and a brother, Marion Harbour, Iona Lemieux, Elane Ehrich, Vanessa Shields and Winston Lother. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family at the MAHAR SON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 4 - 6 p.m. A time of remembrance will be held at the funeral home place at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ileana's memory may be made to her favorite charity, he Wounded Warriors Program, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
