Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Inez A. Aiken, 79, wife of Leslie H. “Tom” Aiken, a former resident of Route 67A, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at Crescent Manor Care Centers following a long illness.

Born in Fletcher on Oct. 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Gertrude (Dunham) LaPlant. She received her education in the North Cambridge schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Aiken were married Feb. 25, 1945 in Cambridge. In earlier years, Mrs. Aiken was employed as a nurse’s aide and in the housekeeping department at Sourdiffe Nursing Home and later at Crescent Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Aiken enjoyed swimming and reading. Her home and family were her main interests.

Survivors besides her husband of Bennington include three daughters, Darlene Harwood and Shirley Lacross, both of Bennington and Kuloa Grover of North Bennington; two sons, David LaPlant of North Bennington and Leslie H. Aiken of Pownal; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Aiken was predeceased by a son, Alvin Aiken, and several brothers and sisters.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher where committal services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at noon.
