Irene C. Apple 1931 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY Irene Catherine Apple, 77, of West Mountain Road passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, May 23, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family. Irene was born in Burlington on Sept. 15, 1931, the daughter of Peter Edward and Margaret Theresa Murray Kehoe. She attended schools in Granville, N.Y., and was a graduate of Granville High School and the Fanny Allen Nursing School in Burlington. She married Richard L. Apple in 1954 and moved to Ithaca, N. Y., a place where they had three children. Irene relocated to Albany, N.Y., in 1962, where she worked at the Veterans Administration as a registered nurse for 30 years, retiring in December 1991. She loved music, gardening, shopping and taking care of her grandson. She especially enjoyed Court TV and crime and medical dramas. Irene's family and friends were so important that she would listen and help anyone that needed advice. Irene was formerly a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena of the Albany Diocese and a tireless devotee and volunteer at the Villa Mary Immaculate and Respect Life Committee in Albany. For her dedication to nursing, Irene received the Florence Nightingale Award for nursing in 1987. She received The Service Award by Veterans Administration for 25 years of faithful service to the United States Government in 1985. She leaves her daughter, Mary M. "Peggy" Woods and her husband, Dana Woods, of Shaftsbury; her son, Scott Apple and his wife, Kathy, of Granville, N.Y.; her sister, Mary Alice Kehoe of Ludlow; her brother, Peter Paul Kehoe and his wife, Rita of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Anne Kehoe of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; close friend, Mildred Cutrufello of Ludlow; her grandson, Isaac Peter Bendavid of Shaftsbury ,and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan; by her brother, Edward Kehoe, and by her nephew, James Kehoe. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in West Pawlet. Interment will follow in the family lot in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Middle Granville, N.Y. Visiting hours will be held at BREWSTER FUNERAL SERVICE, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
